It has also come to the attention of Americans that it is offensive to refer to people who are in the US as illegal aliens. They are now referred to as "undocumented Americans". And we are also told it is wrong to refer to the children born in the US to illegals as "anchor babies". The fact is, these children, are the very anchors that allow illegals to stay in the US illegally and allow the illegals to go on the dole to collect benefits for the child. These children are not considered by most Americans as being American since neither of their parents are American. Americans want the law to change that at least one parent be an American citizen to qualify their child as an American citizen.

Common "Illegals", "anchor baby" might be really insulting for some people even if true. But banning the word "birthday"? That is crazy imho.

This is beyond the height of stupidity. If they are so sceptical, they might as well ban dictionaries while they are on a censoring fiasco.

Andyba ,

Illegals were always called illegals. The ony ones who find the terms illegal immigrant and anchor babies are the illegals and their sympathizers. It's gotten to the point that American citizens are becoming second class citizens to illegals because the government caters to them. It's a huge issue in the US. I don't refer to anchor babies as American citizens, because they are not American citizens in the true sense.

Whatever happened to live and let live? The US is trying to accommodate every race, gender, religion, which is totally impossible. Now it's Jo Witnesses they need to accommodate, yet the JWs feel it's OK for them to go house to house and spread their "word"? Other religions don't, but they do.

What's next? They don't celebrate Christmas, as do other religions. Stop putting up Xmas decorations? Jewish people shouldn't put a menorah in their window during their holy days? JWs don't celebrate New Year's Eve. Stop with the fireworks and parties? Should we all get black curtains and shut the world out so that we don't "offend" someone who may pass by and "see" something they deem offensive? Do we remove anything symbolic on a house of worship? The people in the US think Saudia Arabia is backwards because of all it's censorship, yet, how different is the direction the US is going from other countries that "ban" or censor what is deemed offensive?

You start taking words out of school books, then it progresses further. All school books refer to ethnic groups and religion. That is what history is based on. There is always something that someone is going to find "offensive" if they look for it. When did holidays and religion become so political???

:) Classic. LOL. but ridiculous ofcourse.. If those bans were undertaken in any of the islamic/sharia run countries goverments would be under fire of backwardness and islam would be blamed as religion of medieval times. wow such things could happen in democracies oh woow wow :)...

Berrin ,

That's my thinking. At least there would be a basis - religion - in religious countries - which would be "religiously correct". This is the US being "politically correct" going to the extreme.

Found this:

http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2012/04/02/nyc-doe-decides-to-drop-forbidden-words-list-for-assessment-tests/

How moronic are these people who oversee the education system in NYC that they had to be convinced how foolish it was.

I have nothing against people immigrating to the US - as long as they do it legally. It's unfair to those who go through the process to enter the US legally. Legal immigrants don't enjoy the same benefits that our wonderful government bestows on illegals.

Lol I was thinkng along the same lines.

But I would want to defend these rules. If you watch the video carefully these rules apply to the tests only.

Imagine not being allowed to have birthdays by your parents. Then during the tests where you have to concentrate on the problems without distraction, the next task describes how a happy kid gets lots of presents for his birthday :) All your concentration is ruined, and you fail the test... :)

DFT ,

Fortunately the exclusion of the 50 some odd words isn't going to happen. BOE backed off.
