The Queen Or Sheikh Mo

At the end of the day Elizabeth II was born into royalty, it was/is her duty to rule her country with the aid of her government. She's seen highs and lows, had times when the public have absolutely hated her, but she's come through it with dignity and pride.

She has her faults, but who doesn't, I'm just merely pointing out that she's been around along time and has been throughout alot. That's hardly blowing a trumpet.

Shk Mo is great for the things that he has done, and the visions he has for his country. However like all things/people there are good and bad aspects.

They both have their assets and their faults.

It's comparing Apples with Oranges.

Sheikh Mo has done so much for the vision of Dubai and every day pushes his vision and initiatives further and further. He is duty bound to his people to do this, and for the future of Dubai. If he doesn't.... who will?

England has a parliament run by the people (mostly). The Queen is nothing but a powerless figurehead that rather than pushing the country forward, keeps it anchored in the past.

No contest really.

Yes the Queen has been through a lot, but I'm sure she's had a much better life than 99% of the rest of the people on this planet... and what has she done to achieve this... nothing.

Well said Ian - totally agree with your last post.

I don't have strong feelings either way for my monarch, QEII - but she is where she is out of an accident of birth, her uncle's desire to marry Mrs Simpson and her forefather's luck at being at the right place and the right time. She is a product of her upbringing and has comported herself very well.

I just wonder how the two in question would have acted if they found themselves ruling the other country. I feel that the Sheikh would come out better - so my vote (despite the apple/pears thing) goes to SM.

Cheers,
Shafique

Again, had the Sheikh come to power in 1953 in this country with a mere fraction of the resources at his disposal would be be labelled a "great visionary"? Sure, he has given much to Dubai but also taken much away financially, and that's brought (or bought) a lot of his power in international circles. The British Royal family are an attraction/ freak show that have a nasty habit of paying for themselves through things like tourism (stand outside Buckingham Palace any time of day and night and see how many people are there).

Had either been put in charge of a poor state, I don't think either would have excelled, but then even some of the greatest leaders in history would struggle. Horses for courses and all that.

My vote would go for S'Mo even though I am a Brit.

Liz and the monarchy are old fashionned they help generate tourist interest, the publicity our royal family generates promotes the UK at zero cost. It is part of British hertiage and culture. But they don't actively participate in society and growth of the nation when compared to S'Mo.

LoL, they promote the UK.... hehehe, so does London Zoo !

People travel to the UK to see Buck House, why?? its a house! I have been in Dubai for 6 months, and to keep in the stride of things in Dubai, have no idea whatsoever where SM's house/palace is.. I hear Bur Dubai / Jumeira, but in Dubai, people don't care.

Harry caught with a ciggy (big news), Sheikh Mo buys an Egyptian resort (just a normal day in Dubai)

Keep it real !
