Suicide..?

Suicide..? May 20, 2006
I was just wondering.. Is there ANYWAY that a person can kill him/herself without considering it as a sin?

I read about something about when a person is running away from his enemies he could take his own life to save important secrets or so..
But here I would like to ask if a person has permission to end his/her life after knowing that he/she has a painful disease, or for example that person had an accident, lost his legs and had to live his whole life on a wheel chair or in bed.. As in things conserning the persons body or health..

Waiting for replies..

It could not possibly be considered a "sin" if the persons state of mind dictated death as a result.

When you're feeling a bit down and looking for a little boost, there's nothing like logging on here to find a thread that starts with the word SUICIDE to lift the spirits  Can someone please pass the mogadon!

Oh dear. That sounds like a very difficult situation for you both :(.

Going back to your original question, who is looking for permission to die? You or your mother? And at what level of authority would you or your mother accept that permission if it was given? I mean, if I gave you permission would that be enough? I sincerely hope not since I am in no position to make any sort of judgement, let alone give you that permission.

I think you either need to talk to a doctor whom you respect and/or a religious authority from whatever faith you follow (whom you respect), or perhaps a counsellor as an alternative. It doesn't sound to me like you would benefit from someone who is going to lecture you on the what is sin and what isn't so try to find someone with a sensitive and compassionate attitude.

What I would recommend is a book called "Love, Medicine and Miracles" by Bernie Siegel. It is written by a cancer specialist but is very worthwhile reading for those dealing with any sort of severe illness/accident. IMHO. If you can't find one (try magrudys or booksplus), PM me. I can leave one at the second-hand bookshop in Jumeirah (when I remember the name) for you.

Voya con dios.

Hiya started it off with another of her strange questions.

Intimate's mother obviously has a very severe medical issue. I sympathise greatly as arthritis can be totally debilitating.

sin according to what standard? religiously, morally speaking...? christianity condemns it because it says that life is a gift from god and accordingly it can only be taken by god.
in hinduism it is the biggest sin ever. they say that the law of the karma punishes suicide more than anything else, more than homicide.

i think suicide is in the same time the most coward and most brave thing. if u think that the instinct of survival is the strongest any living being has, than it must be very brave ending ur own life. on the other hand, this is an act of cowardness and weekness.

Driving down Beach Road isnt considered a sin and I used to take my life in my hands every day..Maybe that will solve your dilemma...

Whats with the morbid topic - missed the last episode of Eastenders or something?
