Midwifery Opportunities in Dubai Feb 23, 2006
I am a 42 yr old female, qualified Nurse and Midwife and looking to move to Dubai towards end of 2007. Could anyone put me in the right direction to speak to other professionals..to find out about living and working conditions, personal experiences etc.,

Thanks Susan

Hi Susan,

Do not be discourage by the people over here. You may call direct to the hospitals or email them, check their websites.

Susan, ignore HP - he's decided to leave the forum anyway. (For how long we don't know.)

I didn't think there were any midwives in Dubai. If there are, are they only working in the hospitals, or can women choose to give birth at home without any legal repercussions?

Thank you f_a_n. It's a useful website.

Thanks to kanelli... As far as midwives in Dubai...I'm not sure...but the Al Corniche Hospital in Abu Dhabi is the only one I have come across, via an agency that specialise in Obs and Gynae. The Amercan Hospital also has a Maternity Department...but is run by Consultants, as I understand it, and as such do not seem to require midwives as such. As far as giving birth at home, I think you have to be registered with an Obstetrician at one of the hospitals, but as far as the legalities involved in a home birth I don't know about those. Do you ask out of need or curiosity?

Only curiosity, but one day when I do have a child I'd like to give birth at home. It is more peaceful and cleaner :)

For a list of hospitals go to the on-line yellow pages
www.yellowpages.ae
This will at least give you addresses, phone numbers etc. :)
