To me this report carries little credibility due to some of these reasons. I know Singapore and America quite well from inside, there's no reason this report can carry much credibility!

I saw nothing in the so called report that specifically said their figures related to muslims.
You have one hell of a chip on your shoulder.

no one questions how great dubai to work as an expat if you are earning a pretty tidy sum,, but most 'expats' here include the laborers who have it hard, unlike hte better paid professions.

the survey is true in some sense but not entirely representative of the larger 'expat' population. unless we start using the word expat exclusively to highly skilled/paid professionals.

^ Exactly. So it led me to believe that the survey only interviewed the 'prominent' expats.
Maybe they interviewed a friend of mine who was a truck driver in his home country a year ago and is now working for a big local company as a senior manager. Hmmm.. I'll ask him.

And that's exactly the point. The 'majority' of 'expats' in the UAE are low income Asian workers. Now if they'd interviewed a cross section of these people, the outcome would have been very very different indeed.

Expat Existence, the first report in The Expat Explorer Series, ranked the top rated places to live based on expats’ living standards, an expat’s ability to earn and save, a country’s popularity (longevity), and the level of luxury experienced.

I don't think the survey is all about the comparison of earnings between what the expat used to earn back home and his current salary in the host country.
While it may be a factor, I don't see the most common UAE expat in the form of a store clerk, saleslady, and yes, laborer enjoying a level of luxury the survey mentioned. Either spend and get the littlest of 'luxury' but not save, or save a little but live a miserable life.

If only the survey clearly defined the criteria and the target cross-section of the expat population.

Hey... the survey is probably indicative of the real scenario even though the sample size looks small. I guess even the so called 'Asian' expat also finds this place a preferred destination and thats why we have hoards flocking to this place.

HSBC should have been more specific with the target of their survey like maybe indicating "best places for non-muslim westerners"?

2155 expats across four continents is a bit too thin of a data base for the survey to hold any credibility in my opinion.

If pinoy means filipinos like it does in Singapore, my friend even filipinos are treated quite bad in singapore but not as bad as bangladeshis in my experience.

I agree with you such surveys have little credibility, and often have certain ulterior motives and target audience which they try to woo by publication of one sided and short sighted survey results.
