Well, being the super economist that I am, I can concur that what a lot of people is saying will come true.

Post Ramadan, the traffic on SZR and Garhoud Bridge we be as congested and clogged as ever, and the only difference will be that people will be paying 4 dhs each toll for the pleasure.

Money is seldom a motivator... speeding fines don't stop people speeding etc.

Quoting: http://www.dubaifaqs.com/salik.php

Vehicles exempted from paying Salik toll charges are Public and School buses, ambulances, police and military vehicles, and vehicles belonging to Special Needs institutes.

What   No toll  I think they should charge them a toll per kid to keep them off the road.

No, Salik rightly charges only those oh-my-kid-is-too-good-to-travel-in-the-bus parents who clog roads with 4WDs in the morning.

You think they actually thought it out    If so good (and then they should charge them per-kid).

we avoided SZR and went by the beach road to get to Media city. it really wasn't as bad as it was yesterday which was quite surprising. this was around 9.30.

i spotted quite a number of luxury cars stuck in the jams on the alternate routes yesterday. again, im sticking to my serious dislike of Hummers when i say, 'if you can afford to pay for a bloody Hummer, you can pay afford to pay the tolls! get off our roads!'

You'd be surprised at the number of "rich" people who buy big cars with bank loans and have absolutely no savings.

On another note, how do you refill the card? and how do you check balance by SMS?

Refill card at Emirates Bank and DIB, and ATMs, or log in to Salik (customer login available from yesterday - can also check balance).

By SMS? Don't know.

I saw an article on the paper about that. Particularly locals. The banks are eager to give them loans. Some of them actually did jail time for failing to pay, etc.

I wouldn't use it but I have seen such roads in USA, California , it coasts $3-4 a pass in rush hours and Thailand too , but I guess Dubai road authority is saying (take it or leave it ) so I guess we all have to live with it .
And people don't get engorged by what ( Gtmash ) is saying, he probably worked as a cook for some locals and didn't pay him enough to get a hair cut LOOOOOL, no matter what subject is in, he'll always turn it to rich or locals.
Get a life Gtmash or better yet seek help and please do not tell me you are planning to stay here the rest of your life , we have enough Indians as it is.
