I always say, no matter how poor someone's English might be, it is certainly better than my Hindi, Urdu, Arabic, Upper West Mongolian or whatever.

Unknown Devil: I am glad your brother is doing well. If he is at University of Waterloo and not a Canadian Citizen, it costs a fortune (big bucks even if you ARE a citizen), so I assume you or your family have bucks. That is what I said in my original statement, if you have money, no problem. It is the airport guys you speak about that often have the "dream"...and it will never happen for them. By the way, I don't know what your concept of "good money" is, but a security guard in Canada is akin to flipping burgers at McDonalds, and is about the lowest paying job there (7-8 bucks/hr) and daycares are strictly monitored and regulated.

It costs on average 30 bucks a day to the parents per child, and the daycares have as many kids as the law will allow. After you take your courses and modify your home to the standards and feed the brats, you end up about even (with a trashed house). If you don't want to conform and decide to run an illegal daycare, when the licensed people find out (and they will), child services shows up and takes your kids. Then you have a court date...but wait! your a#s is too poor to pay for proper representation, so we'll keep your kids for you until your deportation order is through. We hope you enjoyed your stay, come again.

I honestly don't know where this information comes from! On the other hand, if you are an experienced carpenter, electrician, plumber, pipe fitter, etc. You can pretty much name your price. Those are some of the most "lowly" professions here, yet command a killer wage in Canada.

Hehe to be honest dude!! My dad pulled a personal loan out from the bank and he is paying that for my bros tuition. Its just that I live in a flat with three bedrooms for 15000 dhs a yr which is a low cost house in Ghusais. So thats where we are by the grace of god lucky and plus my bros got a scholarship of some percentage and also the programme he has gone into is called the co-op program where one sem he studies and one sem he works related to his studies where he also pays partly for the expenses and all. But yeah life aint so easy. Plus we have a more huge thing where my dad again pulled out a loan on his credit card as my mom was suffering from cancer. They couldnt even celebrate their 25 yrs of marraige!! I am just saying all of this so that people dont exactly assume thing. Not offended by ur assumption though!!

Speakin of canada and all. Well I heard from people who has gone there so I really dont know about it. Some say its shitty and some say they are good. So yeah what I have heard just expressing mine. But yeah thanks for the info and all. hehe. I might need some more info on canada if u can help since ur the expert in all of this.

It is funny how people (not just in the UAE) would shout when speaking to another person who they believe might not understand english. I often shout in Mongolian when speaking to brits just to annoy them...

Agree. Not sure why but people do. Sometimes I think people do that because they are labourer or maid and therefore treat them second class. Sad..

Very true but yeah as people say not second class which would be the middle class but they go like third class people. Thats why when people me or my country like thirdclass its pisses the hell out of me. The advantage of me being a Bangladeshi is that because I stayed in Dubai for 24 years. My Hindi and Urdu is very fluent while speakin so no one knows am from bangladesh cuz usually Bangladeshi's or Calcatians(sorry if I made a mistake in the spellin but its the people from Kolkata as in West Bengal in India) have a certain way of speakin Hindi or Urdu where u can get they are from these places as in easy to catch them but my stuff is very fluent. So if someone pisses me off by saying like my country is third class and shit, I can curse them in my language from my right down from the village in Bangladesh which no one understands lol!!
But then again its sad when people treat u that way cuz I know education broadens a persons mind but if this is the case then it really makes me wonder!!

I came to Dubai on march 1st after the hectic flight delay for 16 hours due to some technical faults. Neways I enter to the place where they issue the visit visa. The security literally screams in Hindi or Urdu to come here to all the labourers and make lines. Like treating them like animals. While others, the officials in the airport are asking stupid questions to them in Hindi and laughing on their condition. First these guys dont have proper sleep and then doing this.

So yeah the security guy was like screaming and all making a line and stuff and told them to sit. When I didnt, he screamed on my face. I was like please lower ur voice and speak. I am not some guy on the street. He thought maybe I was one. But he shut up. Sometimes it really is bad. It hurts to see my country people like this.

The funny part is when these guys leave their jobs or deported they wont warn others as in how their state is in Dubai. I met a couple of labour class guys when I was in my country and they asked me how dubai was cuz they applied for visa and what not. I explained to them how it is there. I mightve shattered their dreams but heck sometimes u need to face reality. Then they said like they still have to prepare more.

I once heard before middle men would be like say 2000 dhs would be their salary. And when they came to the company it would be like 1000 is takin by the company because the company provides those shitty accomodation and second then again takes 300 for their so called medical insurances. Which leaves them with 700 dhs. I dont think Dubai even classifies Human rights!!

I suggest some institute like that guy in Gulf news should take some iniative to teach these guys. Hell yeah I might even join. With no charge at all!!

And canada and all people go there for their better job chances. My younger brother is in canada and studying in University of waterloo, electrical engineering. This summer for work he is being flown out to U.s.a for a company called Nvidia which produces computer graphic chips and all. Well canada has opportunites and he plans to stay back in canada after finighs his studies. Dubai might have money but compartively I think the price is the same as canada or states. Its sort of like Indirect tax. Lot of things. I dont say I also totally agree. Dont know about passport. But very rare I have found people who actually were here for many years with good jobs and doing good over there. Most I know the ladies are running Day care at home which is good money while the guys are in security gaurds which is again good money!! But aint worth all that trouble!!

Very sad! Psychology is an amazing thing. The "secuirty" guard at the airport is a "low rank" so he has a bit of "authority" and abuses it by shouting at others he considers "inferior"...

It's been said before, so long as there are people willing to come to work for next to nothing (more than in their countries) this sort of thing will continue on and on... The changes need to happen in their respective countries to create decent jobs, etc. so that their own people are not subjected to exploitation in another country. The world is full of exploiters and exploited (less and less nowadays but...)

Well thats very true!! But things are changing because the new generation are learning and all in the respected places. So I hope it will cuz I know my gut tells me that. I remember when in our country a city was bombed and all because of internal clashes between parties, my dad was worried about it and all then the same day an american consultant came to my dad for some work and looked at him and told him he looked tense and all but yet my dad kinda hid it and the dude was like older than my dad. My dad was like there have been recent bombings in a city and all and it was just a bit of tension. The guy knew our country is a democratic country. He was like dont worry everything is gonna be allright. America fought for 100 years to get democracy and u just libearted ur on 1971 so give it time and it will do for sure!! But yeah they will one day and I wish I live that long to see it. Thats why I get pissed when people call us like 3rd world. If America or any country fought for so many things and all as in their history says it all then I dont think they should be racist or whatever because people shouldnt forget the past just for the furture!!

I was with you until the last sentence. Not because it may not be true but because I am assuming you are just saying that without having been there or experiencing any of it. Comparing racism in America with Racism in Dubai is like comparing glass to dimonds... America is a great nation (so I've heard)...

While we are on that topic. It doesn just happened in Dubai. It happens in work place between female-male colleagues (gender bias) and different races (racism) any where around the world !!

I understand where you r coming from.. but in dubai its all more based on the size of your pocket or the Virtual Size of it. how much you can show off...U've an ultra luxury car and blings and u are on the wrong side of the road n people still dont stop u n swear at u .... but if u are in a small cheaper car.. people will see mistakes even if u are driving all right.
the partisanship is also based on money here..

I agree with Lucifer!! lol I am the Devil and him Lucifer. Kinda match. lol. It's true Dubai is like an artificial life in a plate served to u. U have the money then fine otherwise go. And the amount of racism u get in clubs here just cuz ur asian specially a lot of places. I went into scarlets in emirates tower and I was all neatly dressed and everything. Probably get a line of chicks behind me lol. But the security at the door didnt stop anyone but me just me and saying I am underage. I was like wtf. And the best part no one will check me from the security but an Indian security guy. What!! Am I cheap. I told them to f.uck off and i left. Just because I have a lucky brand shirt on and Not a CK Shirt makes a lot of difference does it?? Just cuz I dont drive a brand new Beamer but drive my dads Honda accord 2002 model makes a difference huh speacially he valet will also not take my car saying it might break down because its too old. People in Dubai who are coming here specially see a lot of as I would say the standard of living here. Btw no offence to anyone. I got loads of people who say like Dubai doesnt have any kind of reality to show to the people. As someone mentioned someone should take the people like an office or a school trip to the labour camps in order to realise whats happening and how it is. U cant demolish Racism but u can reduce it which is still like Newtons concept of gravity until he discovered it. Its like explaining rocket science to a new born baby!!

ok since I have a labourers contracting company which supplys labourers to various other construction companys, i guess i will get loads of licks :D.

but u guys are right the middle men are most of the time at fault but NOT all the time.

middle men like devil said get 2000dhs out of which they will probably give 700dhs to the labourers as a salary package an they will keep the other 1300dhs. you might think this is too extreme but middle men have to think about transportation, food as well as accomodation for their labourers. now then 1300dhs will not get u all of that will it now?

the middle men supplying the labourers always get the money from the other "middle men" who can be construction companies and sometimes the other middle men would run away and take all the money and leave all the middle men in the dark :D.

so u guys are right but the middle men have a family to look after, they too have invested alot especially to get 500 of their labourers visas and health cards to work in UAE.

oh by the way having ur own labourer camp helps alot but most of the cases you will probably rent it out and you will have a very selfish greedy landlord who will increase the rent now and then and having just 1300dhs doesnt help, thats y middlemen would stack 20 to 30 ppl in a room.

but if u ask the labourer they prefer working in Dubai because the dhirams value is more compared to the pakistani or indian rupee and 700dhs they getting is a lot compared to what they would be getting back there in pakistan or india.

so now u see the viscious circle.

I mean the fight for democracy within a nation. Human rights and all. U saw so many movies made on the blacks being tortured specially in the south side of states i think plus even when rules were enforced yet due to the colour of the skin being treated yet different and all. Every country is fighting within themselves to reach to a certain point. America has done that to an extent. What is democracy!! Right of the poeple of that country right so yeah everyone has rights!! Otherwise in states you wouldnt be able to sue someone for say a simple thing like say ur backing ur car and by mistake hit someone because u didnt notice him coming from behind suddenly. Not like runnin over but its a human error that u didnt notice. Even in papers burglars were compensated because when he broke in he fell in the kitchen on some knives and cut him self. His lawyer argued on the point knives should be placed safely and the burglar won. Why because people have rights there and they fought with each other to come to a conclusion on how to go about it. But our developin countries are still fighting!!

I dont deny that middle men have a family and have to think and work their ass off and all. I agree but why the hell cheat on people like tell them 2000 to make it sound lucrative and say u get this and that and that and all but tell the damn truth. Like it then come and dont like it then dont come. Cuz the asian countries guys as I said will first calculate he will get 2000 dhs which is 40000 taka in bangladeshi currency a month. So he has already decided hes gonna do this and that and speak to the family and also save up!! but when he comes in he is all happy abut when he steps through the company his life is shatters. Thats bad!!

And leaving aside all of that. Man dont know about pakistan and Bnagladesh but from India labourers or even skilled workers are reluctant to come because their life is better there back home. Why check this maybe 5 years back 1 dhs is equivalent to 15 rupees but now its 1dhs if equal to 10 rupees which just shows how much Indian economy has grown. I asked a labourer here how come u came here he was like better oppurtinity wise and all. He sold his land in his village and all what not and came and left his job and now he is like I dont like it here cuz I used to earn whatver I could pull my days by with my family and yet save also. Over here I cant do jack.

Thats the labourer part but for skilled workers like engineers and all. My dad is in Dewa since 1978. hehe I should be a citizen here. He is like Indian engineers dont wanna come here due to the pay what is given. He was like this guy called and all after reading the ad and everything and then his first question was like how much are are u gonna give and when he heard it he said I earn double in India. So dont compare India here. India will slowly become on par with states soon. Even outsourcing has become hard. Why do I know this cuz I do free lance coordination job. A guy from India charges 5000 to 7000 dhs max for his work while a guy from phillipines is charging 1700 to 2000 dhs for their work!!

thats the vicious cycle concord is talking about,
there is always another guy from a poorer country that can do it for less, and that will always be more attractive to the guy that runs the business.

till the realisation begins that these people are far from skilled, and the cheaper alternative means you repeat doing the same job 12 times to get it right, or you take 12 times the time to get it done.....

for the big companies its power in numbers, instead of getting 3 semi skilled workers for 7000 dhs a month each, they'll opt out to getting 26 at 800 dhs a month and work them twice as long...

for the smaller companies, i think the above realisation is hitting home, and things are changing for the better.

I've got to tell you before I came to Dubai I had heard "Hollywood has so much influence" and I always thought it was just talk...After speaking with so many people in Dubai from all over the world I am CONVINCED that Hollywood has influenced people. The most obvious example was group of guys who saw "Borne Ultimatum" and you could give them a million dollars to believe it was "just a movie" but they will not take it believing instead tha the movie was "the real thing". The whole thing about lawyers and lawsuits all I have to say is "belive none of what you hear and only half of what you see". Here is a challenge: give me a real example of a US lawyer "abusing" the system... when I mean "real" I mean not just a newspaper article. One of the most "infamous" cases is a woman who was burned by a very hot mcdonalds coffee and a jury awareded her millions of dollars ($2.86M)... That was all reported. What was not reported was that even before appeal the judge reduced the verdict to ($640K) and the parties agreed to a confidential settlement before the appeal (absolutely no doubt far below $640K).

Now how does story like this sound "A woman who alleged she suffered disfiguring burns because of a hot McDonalds Coffe settled for a confidential sum after the judge reduces a jury verdict in her favor" versus "Jury award almost 3 million dollars to a woman who was given too hot a coffee cup at McDonalds"

I'm not a Hollywood star (they don't know what they are missinga) or in the new media. But...c'mon...

I think your head is in the right place but comparing or blaming America won't help your people's cause in the UAE.

The world is full of exploiters and exploited (less and less nowadays but...)

arghhhhhhhh!! That why I hate who created the concept of webpages or even msn. hehehe U cant give facial expressions!! Obviously I am not so dum enough to believe a movie and get it all influenced for me. My point was not on the dubai workers. U said that people need to educate themselves in our own country in order to realise whats happening in Dubai as exploitation right!! So thats why I said being a democritic country where america has reached today is admirable and people should learn from it. But yes there were slaves in america. U cant deny that. Blacks being taken there for slave trade and all. Red Indians being foced off their land and all. Obvioously when one is treated like a slave and then government tries to push the blacks to school and all which creates racial wars leading to maybe civil wars. America has done its fair share to get to that position in which it stands but our countries arent still at the moment so thats why I was saying that we are still fighting in our countries to make human rights possible. I never said America aint racist and all but they do have certain things which our nations should learn. Thats why the 100 years and us not even close!! The movie was an example because some show maybe a bit whats going on in reality. Movie's are not exactly what I would say I base my facts upon!!

Unknowndevil, you are smart and passionat person - no doubt. But just read your last two posts...Take your time. They are inconsistent...

America could just have the first black presidential candidate. Think about, it that is like saying that Dubai will have the first Bangleshi, "His Excellency, Ruler of Dubai, Prime Minester of Dubai" - repeated on every newspaper. NO COMPARISON WHATSOEVER...

Keep up the fight just don't use Hollywood as an example (you are smarter than that...).

Jobless? (nor surpise you mentioned it on your first post here...I pay attention).

Are you looking for a job? What are you qualified to do?

Post here (no personal details...)

Unless you don't want a job (we can always fire Sage & Onion and give you his job - he is useless...)
