Ok i got my plug through .... hehehehehe Dubai yes Very high Cost of lving

advice .... dont come to dubai on visit VISA being sold in Philippines THEY ARE RIP OFFS !!!!! There are a lot of Hopefulls here wo are jobless and are forced to live in bad living conditions and to do work they dont normally do (you know what i mean specially girls) i mean im not slagging my own ... but thats the truth ! and no matter what you do NEVER base your desicion on the movie "DUBAI"because somehow they manage to paint a fantasy land for OFW but they manage to forget those hundreds of Pinoy Visit Visa Hopefulls who are stuck and just merely surviving from low - wage part time jobs .....

bottom line If you have wife and Kids to depends on your income

and you are already making more than 13,000 Pesos . it means your ok ... DONT COME HERE Through Visit Visa ...... Wait and Try your luck through LEGAL Recruiters because they know better if you can get a job or not !!!

Ive seen so many ugly things happen, in one point i was planning to do a documentary " behind the lies of Dubai the Movie " but again im already doing well ... why fck my self ? just be VERY carefull on your decision .... Always think of your wife and kids ... before you take therisk

wanna know more go to www.dubairadiocast.ne1.net

Nice advice radiocast :) and coming from a fellow countryman it would definately make sense to sassy

oh i see.last night, dubai was featured on t.v and i've seen the condition of many filipinos who are now in dubai but didn't go through accredited agencies. the rooms which are 500dinar?am i right? very expensive but it seems its not comfortable to stay in that small room. i thought rooms there are like in "movie dubai" thanks for telling me. how much is the nice and comfortable apartment/room there, just like one in movie dubai? how about you, how's your life in duba? one pinay told her story about being almost raped by arab taxi driver . whew! that's scary!!!!

Hi sassy.

I am from the UK.
I was born in London but I also grew up in Dubai. My gf is from Davao.

My simple advice is this:

Yes, sometimes in Dubai you can encounter 'unique' problems or annoyances. And no, Dubai is definitely NOT always paradise.
But, on the whole, this place is quite wonderful!

IF you have the chance, IF you can come here through the right way/procedure and IF you can get a legitimate or good/average job here, go for it!

The fact is this: the majority of your kabayan in Dubai are contented, safe and making money which they are happy with.

Good luck again!

:D

Burtons IF's are perfect :)

Every individual is different here, whats big money for me might not be the same for others, for some it might be peanuts with their standard of living, for others it would be a dream salary. THe point here is finding a midway solution with which you are satisfied.

I was happy with Dubai to a certain extent, wouldnt say i loved it. I am moving on in this month, its one of those decisions that one has to take.

But like Burton said, you go through right sources and land up a decent job, you MAYBE satisfied on what your final goals are.

Cheers,

J

I'm a filipino who has been offered to move to Dubai to lead a desk of equity derivative traders. I'm not sure if the package they offered is good enough so please let me know. I would also like to know if here are filipino communities in the area.

The package offered is ( in monthly breakdown)

Compensation 100,000 AED
Housing Allow 15,000 AED
Transpo Allow 7,000 AED
Entertainment/Misc 10,000 AED
Health Care Provided
5% Year-end Bonus on Desk Capital Gain

I would also like to stay in area where I have a good backyard for my kids and prefereably a good school.

Thanks for your advise and comments

All figures are in monthly except Bonus because it will be based on the actual end-of-year capital gain of the desk account

The package is a standard package offered here in the US for any sr. trader who wants to relocate to Dubai. The salary component (converted to US$) will be almost the same what traders are paid here but the savings will be in the taxes and allowances.

It will be a big move for me if I accept it that is why I'm asking for comments/advise.

Another trader who moved to DUBAI keeps saying that it's not worth it for him and he will return to US after his contract finishes in Feb 2009 but I thinking more of maybe he's not the saving type but not really sure.

If the package is the same and you save on the taxes, I would think that it is beneficial to come here. Just a thought though, are you not liable for US taxes even working abroad?

Depends on citizenship and passport. If you have both passports, enter Dubai on your Filopino passport = no tax to US GVT.

Not funny! if only you know the mentality of people here about filipinas in general...

Oh well your true intention in coming to Dubai is so obvious. Ikakahiya ka ni Gabriella Silang. Ang tawag nila sa pinay na ganyan ay cheap. Change your mindset please.

Well, to be honest, that's probably true...but I'm not sure if that should be your main priority! What happened to your job?? lol...

Anyway sassy, remember that 'the grass is not always greener'. You might end up with some boring guy who can't dance, can't sing, who only loves to drink in the pub....and worst of all, hates the smell/sight of baguong!! Then where would you be??

 :D

That's a silly thing to say.
I do understand where you're coming from, but as a statement it's still far too general.
We are in Dubai. You can see examples of cheapness - and for that matter, class - in EVERY nationality...

Burton, i know where i came from. The place where I came from can fully comprehend filipinas far better than anyone else. If sassy's intention of coming to Dubai is to find a foreign bf then she could be one of the many fishes in the market, who are vulnerable to abuse and does help foreigners besmirch our reputation. Get real!

I am a Filipina by the way.

Could be silly but it's true. Hence, most if not all filipinos will give a smirk to pinays with a foriegner, especially to married filipinas back home and still manage to s.l.u.t-away with a foreign bf in Dubai.

Burton, you still have to do a lot of assignments for you to understand pinoys/pinays. Filipinos in their social strata.

I've heard about the same allowances given to Filipino expats, but i have never heard of AED100K monthly salary yet. However, that kind of job needs brainy professionals and they should be paid well.

Anyway, it's way too good for a package kabayan. You and your family can live a decent life with that package here in Dubai. Good Luck!

SCY,

You seem like an articulate person so let's see if we can discuss this in a reasonable manner. I think we can...

SCY wrote:If sassy's intention of coming to Dubai is to find a foreign bf then she could be one of the many fishes in the market, who are vulnerable to abuse...

Yes, if this really is Sassy's main reason behind her coming to Dubai - her sole intention, or the greatest part of it - then I agree, it is rather odd. However, I seriously doubt this is the case but again, just for the record, I agree. Imo, the remark was a bit too frivolous, a little too 'careless'. And I can see why it might trivialize what can be a fairly serious topic. You obviously found it, in some sense, offensive.

But, what you seem to have no idea about is how incredibly careless and offensive your own remark is! Go back and read what you wrote. Actually, better still, here it is again:

SCY wrote:Filipina look cheap with foreigners.

Now, are you honestly telling me that you can't see anything wrong with that statement, your statement?? Whether you like it or not, and whether this is how you come across in the 'real' world, your posts - on this topic at least - sound very ignorant and also exude a real sense of...hostility.

This is not me 'going over the top'. Again, I just don't think you have any idea about the consequences of making such a sweeping statement, a statement that directly offends people like me and my girlfriend.

If someone said ''All Muslims are violent or all Muslims look violent'' (whatever that means!), would you agree? I certainly hope not!

If someone said ''All English blokes are yobs or look like yobs'', again - would you agree?

We can keep coming up with statements like these all day! Are all Russians gangsters? Are all Cabin Crew promiscuous? Nationality, job description, religion...however you want to do it, the list is endless.

Nobody - in their right mind - would agree with any of those above statements. So why on earth would anyone agree that ''filipinas look cheap with foreigners''?

You have to understand that your post also exudes a strong sense of superiority; it is inherent in what you write and how you write it. By saying that filipinas who date or marry foreigners look cheap/are cheap you are directly implying - whether you realize it or not - that Filipinas who do not date or marry foreigners are in someway superior, somehow better. Is that really the case SCY? Are you better than me - or my girlfriend? Or, for example, is the Filipino guy who marries a Filipina better than me? Are all the Filipino couples that I see walking hand in hand better than us - my gf and I?? Surely, you have to realize how absurd this is...

Look, my intention is not to jump all over your posts and in any case, you seem quite capable of putting up an argument yourself. But I do think that you need to be very careful about the statements you make, and their implications...

And finally, regarding:

SCY wrote:Burton, you still have to do a lot of assignments for you to understand pinoys/pinays. Filipinos in their social strata.

I have no need for any assignments, no need to do any homework. I am not an anthropologist and Filipinos are not my object of study. This is not an academic subject and I have no desire to put the Filipino - or any other nationality - under a microscope. But perhaps, to use the same metaphor, you would be well advised to turn that microscope on your own thoughts, feelings and pronouncements.

Not wanting to do this to death but again, the hostility in your posts is quite remarkable:

SCY wrote:especially to married filipinas back home and still manage to s.l.u.t-away with a foreign bf in Dubai.

You write this as if the overwhelming cause, the no.1 reason behind marital disharmony in the Philippines is the dreaded...gasp!...'foreign boyfriend'! Lol!...

Do you have any idea how many Filipinos - here in Dubai - are currently conducting affairs with their own fellow Filipinos???

And you tell me to 'get real'? C'mon, please...

well said burton.

Having said that though, I am a filipina, raised in NZ and Australia since I was 4. I married an Aussie and consider myself Aussie. And whilst I do get some curious looks (from other filipinos mainly) because I have a 'western' husband, it bothers me a bit, that somehow I fit into that 'filipina with foreign man' stereotype that SCY portrays...

by the way, aninox that is an awesome salary and can you tell me what you do and how do I do it
