Yacht Diesel Mechanic+ wife wanting to move to Dubai Nov 13, 2005
Hi, Long time reader First time poster:)
Im in Palm Beach Florida, fixing Yacht diesel engines.
After 2 weeks with no power from hurracain K-something"they all blend together" Im done with Florida, and Ive lived here forty years.
I have seen Dubai on tv"the islands being built" and thought it might be a great place to start over.
Here its 500k for a 2 bedroom far from the ocean, and well the crime is rampant.
I have been as close to Dubai as Bahrain for a year back in 91 but we wont go into that. Bahrain was cool at high tide:)at low tide there was a funny smell by the shore:)
Im guessing with all the new islands and homes, that there are alot of boats/Yachts in Dubai?????
Ive been looking alot online and cant find the first Yacht repair site yet. Well there is a Ship repair place. But those are giant diesels and I fix Yacht to sail boat size boat enigines.
Are their just no marine repair shops or maybe just none online??
Also so you can be the one to crush my dreams, I ask,
,Can I- oh lets say at $45,000 a year wages in Dubai, buy a place on the ground"not 20 stories high"2 bedrooms with a sea view? maybe on one of the not yet made man made islands? or are those places way over my modest head?
Thanks for reading my post, I hope to see you on the beach soon. Greg White....aka Whitey,,,,another reson I want to move:)lol

Maite, apartment in Dubai Marina area would suit you down to a tea. Stones throw away from the beach and later on once the marina is all complete and Jumeirah beach residence is all done you should be able to pick up some business from the people in the area.

I know of one marine repair shop but thats situated in Jebel Ali and no, they do not have a website.

All I can say is follow your dreams and best of luck with it all mate.
