Hello! My name is Dale, and I'm an expat American man living and working full time in Bahrain. I signed up for DF in order to make some business contacts, but saw this and didn't want to look unfriendly, so this is my "hello" topic!
Bahrain, compared to Dubai/UAE looks dreary and quiet, but just like anywhere else, one needs a system in place, a circle of close friends and acquaintences, a few hobbies and an open mind. If you don't have those, well... life will get dull really quickly. I've been here for almost three years now, and I simply love it. I came here as a US Navy Officer, and chose to stay here instead of returning to the USA (I didn't feel comfortable there). Well, I went back for two weeks in order to process out of the military and I'm now in the mode of opening my garage here. Just general maintenance for normal daily driven cars. On the side, I rebuild and fabricate custom one-off for Japanese performance-based Nissans on commission. I'm doing one right now for a client in the USA. Also, I am an avid drifter and have gotten into autocross just the other night at Bahrain International Circuit. By the way, we are having drift/autocross every Thursday night during Ramadan, and we definitely need/welcome folks from throughout the GCC to come here and participate. Other than that, I love surfing, but there's no place here in Bahrain for that, so I took up wakeboarding. I have actually surfed in Dubai a few years back before the major build up of projects/resorts and stuff (when the winds blow down hard from Iraq, there's usually some swell; caught it shoulder high before). I definitely wanna go try out the indoor snowboard place soon!
Ok... I am rambling on and on here, but it would be cool to correspond and swap e-mails/messages/text with folks from the Dubai area. If you are ever heading up this way, drop me a line and we'll go socialize! :D

Thanx! It's nice to see this kind of forum here in the GCC, albeit Dubai, and to read about all the kinds of stuff expats there experience at all levels.
I hope there's a chance of some sort of DF member get-together. I think that'd be cool!
