I want to make myself clear on my current situation:
I lived in Dubai for 5 years, and I took a loan out while living there. Due to falling pregnant and fearing jail time, I fled back to South Africa where I now am currently. My husband, who is Canadian, spent a whole year applying for my permanent residency card for Canada, and now we have been faced with the debt that I had practically forgotten about:
The UAE CID section has denied me a police clearance and there are 2 cases on my name. I need desperate help from anyone who knows if the UAE legal system confirms that an expat must return to the UAE in order to settle the matter in court once the loan has been paid off, OR, if I pay off the loan in full and get a "No Liability Certificate" from the bank, will that suffice?
I am beyond desperate to get this all corrected. Does ANYONE know if there is a way to do this without having to go back to Dubai????

Why don't you contact a Law Firm and ask them, I am giving you a link which may be helpful, mind you, I really don'y have to much sympathy for what you have done, you should have arranged to pay your debts before they came and bit you in the backside.

I worked for Immigration Canada; and I never knew that there was any relation between the debt in the UAE, your place of residence in SA and your PR application.
Why would u need a UAE police clearance if you are currently living in SA? If you applied from the Abu Dhabi embassy, cant you just move your file to Jo'burg?
From what i know here in the UAE, the moment you land in the airport you will be taken to a holding cell until your court date. Call your bank and arrange to pay your outstanding amount before you think about going to the UAE
