Hi all!
My name is Gordon and I've just relocated to Dubai from Australia with my family to take a job as a doctor in Dubai Healthcare City.
It's wonderful to be here and to see all of the amazing sights that had dazzled me from the internet!
I have a quick question. I'm not very familiar with forum etiquette and I really don't want to be seen to be spamming the forum. I'm new in my job as a doctor here and wanted to reach out to the expat community to let them know I'm here and keen to help where possible.
Could anyone give any advice?
I've joined the local Australia New Zealand Association and have started to attend their functions. I know that word-of-mouth is the best method of referral and I'm keen to work at this task. Any suggestions to help me would be most appreciated.

PS Thanks to everyone for the helpful posts on this site. I did a lot of reading from here before we arrived. It seems that some of the information has changed since the economic crisis but most of it was very helpful.
PPS If anyone is considering the move to Dubai or just about to move I'd be very pleased to offer help from my limited experience.

Welcome to Dubai Gordon. Hope you and your family settle in as easy as possible. There are quite a few Aussies in Dubai so getting your word out should be easy. Your wife should join a forum that is geared to women in Dubai and the other Emirates. They are a nice bunch (a bit too girly for my liking, but nice nevertheless nice). They get groups together and many of them do the Mommy and Me things and are helpful to each other and they do reach out to newbies.
I'm going to stick my neck out here and mention it:
