Thank you for hosting and posting at this forum. As I prepare for my move to Dubai it is proving to be very valuable.
About me: real estate finance and development finance guy from the US (but my mom is Canadian!).
Wrapping up my last deal here in the US and as soon as the ink is dry on these financing documents for my client, I am taking my placement fee, putting my loft up for sale here in the US, putting my stuff in long term storage, and heading to Dubai--with the dog and a couple of surfboards.
I've traveled to Dubai before and I can't wait to return. Finding a temp room or place to live while I get my bearings is first, then finding the job is the immediate priority.
A pleasure meeting you all. I'll do my best to search threads before asking unnecessary questions.

so your plan is:
1-selling everything in US
2-moving to dxb
3-Finding a place
4-Finding a job
Have you had any interviews or have you checked the market the last time you were there? unless you don't want to start your own business its better to travel here for a few months on a visit visa, then look for a job and a place and then go back and take care of the things back home.

Yes, normally, I would agree with you, but I meant to move to dubai 2 years ago after I spent a month there but instead got a little sidetracked here in the US....now that this project is wrapped up I am ready to burn the boats.
Trust me when I say I won't be missing much here in the US. My background is real estate finance (fixed income and structured debt and equity) on projects in excess of $50 million USD and the media isn't even telling the world half of the major problems behind the curtain.
Also, I am in desperate need of a vacation after the past 12 months.
