I'm new to the forum so, 'Hi!'. I kitesurf & wanted to know whether anyone here also kitesurfs and can give me some practical advice on the do's and don'ts of kitesurfing in Dubai. Never been to UAE or Dubai before though have travelled on vacation to a number of Middle Eastern, North African and Gulf countries... Any willing to head me in the right direction? Starting a contract in May for 6 months initially and looking to go permanent there after.
If anyone has advice on salary expectations and benefits for contractors then also, feel free to let me know. I work in the telecommunications sector and the role I'm due to take on is senior management with a fairly green-field remit. A number of people to work underneath me although head-count has not yet been discussed. I've suggested 55000 AED per month with 5* hotel and return flights once a onth. If anyone thinks that deal is too poor or good even, please let me know.
Having worked in other countries around the world, I am all to far aware of going in under the going rate and struggling to raise the salary bar a few notches.
Oh, and if any kitesurfers are reading, I'd really like to catch up in May if poss!!
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for your input.

The salary is beyond belief considering many people would give anything to work and live here. But, hey, if you can negotiate that, good on you!!

I don't think it is that outrageous, heck my own bill out rate is more than that but sadly i work for a pimp so I don't get it all.
Like Gab said, more power to you. I know people that make what you make and more but you are in the uber echelon of expats, as such I salute you with my middle finger hehehe.

Welcome.
Kitesurfing is now fully regulated in the UAE. It was under the control of the Dubai Ski Club (water ski that is, not to be confused with the hew ski club for the Mall of the Emirates indoor slope!) however they have just lost their clubhouse after many years. Not sure where it is now but can find out.
Would have thought the job would have been more of a 'brown field remit out here' but at the level you are asking for...can I have your effing job?!!!! To put you in perspective, the average wage out here is about 12,000 - 15,000 per month, but the majority are down in the 1000 - 1500 mark if you work on a construction site. They don't get a 5* hotel, but 15 of them will share 1 room and a single toilet in a labour camp...think yourself very, very priviledged!
If you get the wage...beers are on you!
