Hi guys,
New to the forum..
I recently moved back to Pakistan after living and working in the USA for 25 years..
Would love to make some friends in this part of the wrold as well :-)
I have been looking for a job somewhere in the Middle East but seems like even getting a response has not been possible.
I do have a 20 years of experince in IT.. with an IVY League education.. never thought that I would not be able to find a job anywhere:-(
Any pointer would be really great..
I have tried to hit MOST of the JOB SITES and have sent out quite a few resumes.. NOT ONE CALL and / or EMAIL response.
Regards
alexandra

Yes i know PAKISTAN and PAKISTANIs have not earned a good reputation anywhere in the world except when it comes to Terrorism..
I thought with my 2 IVY LEAGUE Degrees.. I might overcome that stigma but guess.. no one gets past the PAKISTAN thing.

I coulld come here but waht i am seeing and hearing.. i would be sitting there and looking for a job.. and on top of that would need housing etc. there... if i got somekind of positive feedback.. i would no have an issue with that..
Right now.. I do see jobs advertised but they do not even bother contacting me... is the same thing going to happen once i get there?

Face to face buddy, Dubai's online feedback is horrible even though they are at par with the best of technology.
I had to personally go meet people to get myself a job here. My little brother went to "Go Sports" to drop off his resume for a summer job and got pinched. He had to give an interview on the spot. Things are so fast here, people actually dont have time for you any more. Online or not, your either in or out.
I suggest you make a trip, its worth the money you spend. You make friends and you'll get to see the lifestyle here. Trust me, I've studied in America, its way better here.
Cheers

Thanks for the wonderful Advice.
ok.. so I need to make a list of companies i need to hit and then go hit those companies with resumes when i get there?
I have never knocked on doors like that.. kinda lost as to how you would go and hit the companies hiring .
any pointers would be great..
Guess I am going to be planning a trip up there soon.

Well, 1st you need to get here... get your self a contact number. The probably go through newspapers, online job postings etc and contact them via phone.
Fax them your resumes and hope for a fruitful reply before the Interview. Generally this is how I'd be doing it wherever I went.
In short, a place to stay and good means of communication is whats top priority as soon as you get here ;-)
Cheers

Please send me your CV for future consideration. I say future because our company is new but will be recruiting IT staff (CIO & 3-4 Superusers to manipulate Hospital 2000 software) towards the end of this year; by Mid 2008 we will need a full IT Department.
I will definitely pass it on to our HR Director for review and consideration.
Take care
