Well your going to move from one seasonal depression to another. Welcome to the land of 3 month summer and 9 month oven season. But you get used to it kinda, we'll not really. I've lived here for 33 yrs and I'm still not used to it! You'll keep on sending blessing to the person who invented the A/C I know I do atleast once a week during summer.
Let the baking begin !!!

Hi Ruskie, welcome. Well, Ajman is not too far from Dubai I guess!
I hope you like 50 degrees C because it can reach that in summer, although the authorities will say it's 40 :D
Ruskie
Okay, so I've had a goal from very young age that I would one day move to Dubai. Well, my dream is somewhat true. I'm going to university in Ajman in September and I cannot wait.
When I had a visit there few months back I was in love. This place is for me. Anyways, hello everyone? I can't wait for the awesome weather!!!
andz_zmzn
OH mY! really>, Ruskie? I have the goal as well of visitng canada this year however nobody can make invitation for me and my cousin...what can u suggest? I hope to meet u here....just inform me when ur around---i can assist u.

Ahhh, and I dream of heading back to the Toronto area again in the near future. :D
Welcome and good luck with your studies!
Ruskie
Nothing special here, unless you like cold weather :P.
I love the heat, I can handle 40C. :D
kanelli
I haven't seen winter in 3 years and miss some skiing and hockey - not to mention a snowball fight! At least for me, sunny tropical weather has gotten boring... I miss the autumn leaves, nippy winter, and smell of spring.
Speedhump
Yes, after a while a lot of people from the north miss the cold weather and the different life it allows, like the Indians miss the rains! But I'm fine here for now (when the sun comes out again...how long has it been now?) :D

Wow, do I get you!!! I also miss the smell of cut grass, the smell of the air before a snow fall, and seeing the snow untouched.

in fact I often smell cut, wet grass here, on the roundabouts :D it's wonderful.....
kanelli
When I lived in Dubai I had to burn pine or cedar essential oil sometimes because I craved something like the smell of forest.
Ruskie
Hahahaha, but in Toronto. There's only 2 seasons. Summer and Winter. Really, no spring and fall at all.

You're sick of flat country too eh? Yeah, can't stand it either. I just want to actually go swimming on a beach anytime I want. If you haven't heard Lake Ontario is so polluted it's not even funny.

Welcome Ruski. Any reason you picked a university in Ajman instead one of the top schools in Ontario? Western, Schulich have IV schools. UofT, Ryer and York all have solid programs as well.
Cheers.
I choose Ajman is because I have property there so it would be cheap to live here. My biggest reason for coming here is that I have serve seasonal depression. The 6 month long winters here are dreadful and I try to visit the carribean as much as possible but it does not help. In the summer time here I'm the happiest person alive. So, that's why I picked Ajman and also that my program (Pharmacy) is very universal so it's not like I'm missing out on anything here.

WTF ! Canada has such beautifull Mountain country and lakes and sh!t man.
Sorry G you stuck in flat land. Have fun running along the dykes until you land something here.
Why don't you come and vsit dubai, Its not like you need a visa. And apply directly from here. Much better chances.

Much better chances he says. Go pollute the desert with that carbon footprint of yourz.
There isn't a country in the world that has more layoffs than Dubai momentarily. And don't you dare to look at the offical unemployment numbers!!
:D
desertdudeshj
WTF man .....your weird dude. Since your so ghayingly desperate to land a job here I thought you'd have better chances lookign for work here. Than applying from the wind mill you live in.
Friesland foods has a big office here and I know a few dutchies who work there ;) Maybe pull a little wasta from your fellow country men to land you a job. But now since you've been mean to me I won't :(
Oh I get it. Can't afford a trip out here. Say so man. Don't make excuses
RobbyG
Don't overreact dude. I'm an engineer, am not looking to supply Arabs for milk.
You should lower the 'desperate' assumption a bit. I'm searching for 'the right' move down there. Otherwise I be scrubbin' those toilets of you already.
You catched my hammer this time, I think... ;)
desertdudeshj
Was it the wind mill bit that got you ? :D

Yeah Vancouver is really nice. Then again I think they have the worst weather because it rains there 24/7. No where in Canada is it near the nice weather in dubai ;P

The Windmill !? No man thats my pride and cultural glory! ;)
It would rather be the 'ghayisly desperate - excuses' that made me pricky all at once. 8)
Wait till I get there... ever seen a human Ostrich in the Dubai desert? Head first.

You stated in another thread (Dubai Auto forum):
"I'm going to university in Ajman this september. I'm 19 and I wonder if I could lease an 2009 Audi A4 but due to my age i'm afraid that I will get denied. "
If its true (highly unlikely @ age 19) that you already have property here, you will know first hand what the conditions are like. Well I hope to god you do.
I loved the Canadian winters as I lived through them for many years. I loved escaping to Blue Mountain, and St. louis during the winters for a little ski weekend get-a-way.
You have to understand that during the summer here, it is too hot to go outside for more than a few minutes. You may envision many long hours spent at the beach, but will soon realize that you cannot stand on the beaches barefoot as your feet might get burnt. Did you happen to read the article about the "dark side of Dubai" regarding feces found on the beaches and in the water? Did you happen hear about the recent toxic (supposed, yet denied by the Govt) algae found in the water and some of the beaches in Fujeriah/Dubai being closed?
I think you will dream of being on Wasaga beach again if not in the Caribbean
Beneath the bright lights and glitz of the UAE s a much different country.
Open your eyes.
Ruskie
My mom has property is what I mean and I'm not staying here in the summer of course I'm going to be coming back to Toronto. The beaches in Ajman are actually fairly in good condition.
My mom has lived in UAE for abit. I know what I'm getting myself into.
Blue mountain is a joke, snowboarding is fun okay. But this winter you weren't here when 1 whole month was -30. No joke. Right now I'm looking out my window and see snow. It's April 8. No snow is suppose to be here. How can you last 6 months of this. It's crazy.
Ruskie
I've read Dark side of Dubai. Trust me, Toronto too has it's own problems. Do you not know how dangerous it is here. Every other day they are doing drug busts and raiding homes. It's gotten harsh here and I'm done.
Red Chief
Even bigger problem that you will not see any white face for weeks living in Ajman... Only shop near Port entrance can help for a while... 8)

Having lived in, and been in Toronto for many years I know just how dangerous it is.
And let me tell you first hand, its NOT!
Perhaps if you're walking down dark alleys in the clubbing district, or hanging out at Jane & Finch (which isnt that bad anymore) I'd see your point.
Try yorkville , the beaches, the distillery district, downtown, st. lawrence market, kensington market, ... i could go on.

Toronto may be on the other side of Canada, but I have a relation in Vancouver and he writes about crimininality in Canada. But I can tell you, that it doesn't looks better then before. Its getting worse.
So I don't know how long you've been gone out of Toronto, but your experience might have been outdated by now

Maybe it's like Dubai. There are a lot more crimes reported in the newspapers here over the last 1-2 years, and I think now even more with the economic problems people are facing. But it's still much safer than London, say. I know that for an absolute fact.
Maybe crime is increasing in Toronto but it's still a relatively safe city?
I can't believe it could be as dangerous as US cities anyway (Detroit, Oakland, Birmingham, etc) :D

I lived in Canada until 1/2 way through last year. My opinion is not dated at all.
I went to school downtown toronto, I worked in Toronto, I lived just outside in the suburbs, but spent most of my time in T.O.
The point I was trying to make is this: Toronto is very safe in comparison to many other North American cities. That's fact.
http://www.toronto.ca/quality_of_life/safety.htm
I honestly never met one person who was ever afraid or complained about the safety of living there... Until now I suppose.

It's safe to an extent. For males like me it should not be a problem, but my pervious neighbhour hood was etobicoke and let me tell you the amount of drugs there is incredible. I'm based in Thornhill now and it is MUCH different then Etobicoke. Barely any cops here, very quiet 2AM at night. But completely different story on Lakeshore... in Etobicoke.
