Hey

Souless Hi all. I am new here from London. Looking to move to Dubai ASAP but in a very complex situation. So logged in here to get some advice on stuff. In a nutshell: I am from London. Fiance is from Saudi. We want to move to Dubai as it is the only place we can stay together easily and supposdly get good jobs and a home. However - I have been looking for work since January and so has he. I am in IT tech support and his field is financial and we cannot get anything! I keep reading it is best to apply for a job first and then go - but I cannot seem to find anything so am at my wits end. Also I work for a large intl firm that has offices in Dubai. I have been to see them and they have not yet offered a job as he says he has nothing for me but has given me a quote of AED2.5 - 4K as a salary for PC support. Is this a right :?: Seems awfully less to me. What are they like about women in IT out there anyway? Housing is another issue but I really have gone on enough :!: Any replies/help would be gratefully read! :D
algren hiya..trust me the max sal..tehy offr for pc support is aed 3.5-4 k n thaz for ppl with lots of exprience fluent in arabic with a+ crtifiation...I know this cos i work for an IT support firm, although i'm into oracle support team.. We are a team that supports teh IT staff of uae armed forces..teh max sal teh desktop support person gets is 4k... Oracle, solaris n maiframes are hot here..tehy pay gud too... Souless Thanks for that :) I have A+ and two years experience. Bloody helll - so what do they pay for like admin jobs? Liban More :) Souless
Ok so Admin work it is then! Liban LOL... That was easy 8) I've seen offers for experienced admins for 9-10K!!! Usually they are about 7K on average with the standard benifit package (health, dental, and yearly flight home). Souless Well to be hones i have worked very hard for a career in IT. And still am working hard towards it but if it doesn't pay me what I need. I will do something that will. Admin is easy I have done it before. salsa Hey that must be Sterling or Euro. AED 2.5 to 3 is not even enough for peanuts. Thats the kind of salaries offered to we Indians in clerical jobs. I am into IT field myself and know for sure that if you are a into IT support your minimum salary has to be around 10K ( for westreners). As most of you know the ethincity also decides the salary range here. The best thing would be come here on visit and look out for jobs. Sitting there and applying does not work. If you want I can give you some lead anyway. All the best and cheers!!! Souless Thank you all! AED was what he said  That is indeed peanuts and I cannot work for that. mAJOR pAIN
this is true .. sad to say that dubai actually looked at your passport first before they actually look at your experience ... but again ... its on tyour advantage that you are english... you would be getting yes around 10 plus ... because they get to save a lot too ...by employing english work force ... A) they dont have to pay for your visa ... because you dont need a visa ... B) if they dont need to pay for your visa ... then they dont have to give immigration a security bond equevalent to a persons salary ... seee ... english work force ... is in a way practical help cause theres less paper and curier work to employ them hahahaha cause in a way english are treated like locals in here ... (and thats unfair !! hahahahaha)

algren the stuff that maj pain wrote abt visa is total bullshit!! top class crap!! mAJOR pAIN
ok yeah .... ok ... i got my facts mixed ... my humble apologies ... <bow down> ok ... so Apparently english people do get visas if they are working ... but not on visit ..... but again ... the issue of UAE looking at your passport fisrt before they look at your skills are true ,.. and they give salary brackets according to what nationality you are .... ....... Souless
Ummm yes - if you are British you have to get a Visa.
I am actually Indian from the UK - what does that mean? mAJOR pAIN
ok yeah .... ok ... i got my facts mixed ... my humble apologies ... <bow down> ok ... so Apparently english people do get visas if they are working ... but not on visit ..... but again ... the issue of UAE looking at your passport fisrt before they look at your skills are true ,.. and they give salary brackets according to what nationality you are .... ....... algren as far as i know...nationality bias do not exist among expatriates who work in teh IT industry in uae... the pay package is far better for uae nationals..cos their pay package is regulated by teh gov here..for admin jobs..i have heard europeans bein paid better..thaz cos employers know education is europe is expensive...n has a global approach..its considerin these facts teh pay package is fixed.. As for IT...if u r qualified and capable of gettin teh job done..u get paid reasonably..still fluentcy in arabic is essential for support roles... that can be a decidin factor.. :) maj pain buddy..citizens of uk can avail visit visa on arrival at uae airports...but the work visa rules are same for all expats!!! fayz Hi, Good luck in your search. Unfortunately the reality is that for desktop support people, My experience is that companies usually like to hire Indian/Non GCC Arab males and pay them around AED 3k, If you are more of a network architect, Programmer analyst, security specialist or can offer some specialized expertise then your salary will be allot higher. Nationality does make a difference. There is also a bias from what I've seen where they don't like to hire women in roles of desktop support. Combining your two skill sets of desktop support and admin may make you the perfect candidate for a smaller organization and net you a nicer salary, you may wish to market both skill sets combined. Just my 2 cents, feel free to ignore. Souless Yes thanks fayz that is what I thought. I am studying towards some Cisco exams now but from I see they seem to get unnerved by a woman in a technical role  Algren - 3.5AED is awful! How can anyone accept that as a salary for an IT role? I am sure most of these people are well qualified - how do they survive :?: Oh well.... seems I better start going for office roles  algren who said 3.k was a good pay?? unfortunately tahz all u can can expaect for PC support..n yet tehre r lots of ppl to work.. Souless The people that accpet 3.5K say it's ok to pay that amount - thats what I mean.
