Hello from Cyprus now but Dubai in May!!

Defo
It's nice if u already have a job waiting for u. Then I bet everything else (medical insurance, accomodation, transport) have been arranged for u as well?
Anyways, 5,5 days working is indeed rather normal here, but the pressure is less on the floor than in Europe  Besides, u will get used to the rythm for sure 8)
sweethoneybums Hello all! Joined today. Whats it like to live there? I hear you need a special licence to drink in your own home! Is this true? I think im in the dark ages where Dubai is concerned but hoping to get up close and personal with it soon!! :) Liban
Well hello there.... Ahem ahem.... How you doin'? Let me introduce myself, I am Liban and I am offering my services to show you around Dubai...
Dubai is great, as I am sure I can show you. You need a liscnce to buy liquor yes.
I have been to Paphos many times in the past.... Is that pelican still there? So, when are you gonna come down here?? sweethoneybums Hello Liban, Thanks for offering your help. I do not know as yet the exact date of my arrival or if I will accept the job that is being offered to me today! Thanks though :) Jeevan welcome aboard sweethoneybums, i am sure there will be many people on here willing to show you around. Cheers, Jerry sweethoneybums Cheers Jerry!! Look forward to making new friends!! :) yshimy Making friends !!!! hahahahahaha No, don't worry, i do agree with Jeevan, alot of people will be willing to show you around and befriend with you.... hehehe Ok, apart from the jokes. Yes, you get license, but if you travel alot you don't need, as you can buy liqure from the Duty Free without license. Also there are some other venus that you can get liqure without license, but... well they are still leagal by the way. i may PM you the way when you come. But you can still drink in the bars and hotels without licnese. Enjoy dubai, and there are really nice things here other than drinking :) jk arniegang All these offers of help ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I wonder why. Long tongues and dribbleing mouths to the ready. If this young lady has more than 3 brain cells, once she has read some of your posts, do you really think she would be interested in people with severe mental instabilities? I think not. Nice ladies like "gentlemen", who have manners and dont verbally abuse other women. Two of you in this thread are guilty of such.  sweethoneybums You know, I am not just looking to come over there to drink!! I was just simply asking if you could! Like I said, I am in the dark ages where the do's and don'ts of Dubai are concerned!! Can anyone tell me some of them? The do's and don'ts?? Id really appreciate it. You may laugh at me wanting to make friends but I've been raised to believe you can never have too many friends. Just too many enemies. :) fayz You are coming with the right attitude and welcome, if you keep that attitude you'll have a blast here. As for the Dos and Don'ts, Dubai is pretty open, you can do pretty much anything here, there are bars, clubs, beaches, scuba, coffee shops, night markets, pretty much anything. Having said that though it is a Muslim country and although quite liberal there may be times/areas where you wish to be a bit more conservative so it is always good to keep a pashmina or something with you in case you find yourself in this type of situation. Definite no no’s - don’t be drunk in public, never drive drunk (0% tolerance), same goes with drugs. People are generally quite friendly and there is minimal crime although it is increasing so just be aware of your possessions, best rule of thumb, look around if everyone is covering shoulders, knees then do the same. Dos, definitely explore as much as you can, tons of tourist traps but if you can free yourself of them some beautiful areas around. I can’t compare it to Cyprus as I’ve never been although I’m suppose to go in April for work but compared to other places I’ve been I find it quite open and friendly and quite western, a good opportunity to meet so many people from different places. Enjoy,

sweethoneybums Many thanks Fayz, the first thing I will do when I come over is shop for appropriate clothes and a pashmina is on the top of my list. Any country will welcome you if you respect it I am old enough to know that! But any advise is always welcome. Ill be moving to a place called media city! I'm so excited. Nervous at the same time but still! Woo hoo Thanks again.. :) Defo
Media City??!!! :D Sweet! I am about to get a job there 8) Do u already have one? And where will u be staying?
Anyways, if u want to see some pics of Media City and its surroudings, go to my log: www.dubaiwelcomesmarco.web-log.nl 8)
And u like shopping as well? I also took some pics of the IBN Battuta Mall  sweethoneybums Hey Defo, Not sure of the exact place or details as yet but already have a job to come to :) Thanks for the shopping tips! Gotta work first though to earn those pennies.. How come you have to work 5 1/2 days over there.. thats awful! Ill miss my Saturday and Sunday lie ins.. Oh well.. sweethoneybums Yes, everything is covered. All being well I should be there by May! :) Defo
Wow, thats really great :) 8) sweethoneybums So is it safe there for girls to walk the streets alone? Or will I need a bodyguard?? hehe Liban Dubai is one of the safest cities in the world in terms of crime. Do not worry... kanelli sweetyhoneybums, although it is fairly safe here, the men outnumber the women by 4 to 1 at least, and many of these guys are lonely and haven't seen their wives in years. My advice is to always walk with girlfriends/friends as much as possible, and keep walking alone at night to a minimum. There have been some recent stories about rapes, and men often try to solicit for prostitution if they see a single woman walking alone (and at night!). Liban Still eons safer than in Western cities or even some Arab cities for women here....
kanelli Yes, but don't you think one rape is one too many? It is better to be cautious than carefree and be the one case in six months that something has happened. Welcome to the world of being female :D Liban I agree. The punishment for rapists in Islam is SEVER to say the least. But per capital, its much lower here than in Europe. arniegang Liban I do agree with you re Dubai but K does have a point. kanelli Even if there is less rape here, it isn't fun to be harrassed or frightened by men who may or may not be harmless. sweethoneybums Thanks guys. Ill be sure to keep my night walks to a minimum! What if someone does try it on and I knock him out? Will I then get into trouble? kanelli Well, it would be better to run in that case. :) Liban Anybody lays a hand on you or makes you feel unconfortable, go to the police. They will take care of him.... Or her.... fayz I know a girl who was attacked in her home in Dubai, she fought them off and only was shaken up. Dubai is a very safe city but crime and a$$holes do exist, be smart and go for the crotch. Any rapist deserves nothing short of castration. If memory serves you are moving here in the summer, you biggest fear will be going outside in the heat, a little street smarts and you’ll be fine. sweethoneybums Im moving over in May! I hear the heat is really really bad! As far as being street smart, well I have lived alone since I was 18 so I'll be fine! :) Im hoping to join a gym or a diving school so I can make some friends that way I wont be walking the steets alone!! lol Ar gyms expensive?? Are all places airconditioned? Liban
In May the heat starts :(
There are many gyms.... You can have cheap 100AED/mo.... and expensive 800AED/mo... I'd go to the one in Ibn Battuta. 300AED/mo and its really nice. Keep in mind most appartment buildings have gym included in your rent for free and you can meet people there too :)
All read ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL places are airconditionned... If Maslowe's Need Hierarchy were to have been derived in Dubai. AC would be on the top of the list  sweethoneybums Thanks so much for all your help! Normally in Cyprus Id buy you a drink next time I see you but the chances of that happening over there.. lol I am also a singer. How would I go about finding a singing job over there?? yshimy well, First depends on how good you Sing + how good you look. it is Showbiz after all. (showbiz = show business, not show biz as arabic ;) ) There are alot of live music places in dubai, but if someone from the royals died, you are out of business for a month. Anyway, good luck. MaaaD well you can then just work the biz and leave the show haaaaaahahah i crack myself up :) sweethoneybums Nice one.. Im a great singer actually! Not that I like to blow my own trumpet or anything but a good singer is a confident one!! Will wait till im there! Singing will be a part time job anyway..so if I dont do all the time its not a problem!! :) Liban
I just did this cut and paste to excite Sniper420 seeing as he blows his trumpet all the time... XRW-147 Any singing job in particular? As in, you looking to join a band or work at a hotel/pub etc? sweethoneybums Liban.. dont put words in my mouth.. ! sweethoneybums XRW I am looking to join a band, work in a bar, sing in a hotel! Anything, as long as I am singing.. I have no idea what wage to ask for.. over here you dont get much for singing.. but I suppose every place is different.. :) Liban
It was only to excite Sniper420 and not against you :)
Peace! Liban
You can come serenade to me outside my window.... I don't mind... :) Intimacy Liban... Damn man.. You made me crack down laughing after ur first reply here :D Behave man.. and get hold of ur self.... :D love u bro. Liban  sweethoneybums Liban.... Wheeeeeeeeen the moon hits the sky like a biga pizza pie thats amoreeeeeee.. Hows that?? richmc When the world seems to shine like you've had too much wine That's amore!!!!!!!!!! (my favorite bit) Bells'll ring ting-a-ling-a-ling, ting-a-ling-a-ling And you'll sing "Vita bella" :P Liban
Ohhh.... You had me at When.... :) sweethoneybums
Hearts'll play tippi-tippi-tay, tippi-tippi-tay
Like a gay tarantella
:) sweethoneybums
lol :) Ill be sure to sing you a full song when and if I get a singing job over there :) Liban Anytime.... :) I'll be waiting for ya!! sweethoneybums So where is a good place to live near media City.... Ive read that bikini sunbathing is allowed. Is that on all beaches and is this a full bikini at all times? kelly1966
Why would you ask a question like that if you know that the UAE is a Muslim country? Are you not aware of their beliefs? You questioned in one of your earlier posts about wearing a Hijab, then in this post you basically ask if you are allowed to go topless on the beach.... :? sweethoneybums I know that it is a Muslim county and I respect that totally. But I have heard from a friend that lived there that they did it at some private beach which surprised me. So I asked. There is no harm in asking surely. I was surprised that they allow bikini sunbathing. So I will rephrase my question and ask if swimsuit/bikini sunbathing is allowed on all beaches? kelly1966 Well most likely alot of women do it on the private beaches, but not legally.....I'm not sure what the punishment would be if you got caught. Probably nothing (who is going to go up to a woman with no top on and tell her she is under arrest?) lol sweethoneybums Well I wont be doing it.. especially if its disrespectful.. but tan lines are horrible.. u try having a tan on your body then white bits on your chest.. it looks awful! Oh well, I can always tan in Cyprus!! hehe Have a great weekend.. or rest of the weekend.. or week even.. My weekend starts now so its off to the pub for me! yay :) Liban
So you tan topless?
Do you have any pictures of Cyprus beaches with you in them?? esthers i think it is ok im not sure on bikini thing when i got there i have to find out if that's true...tanning is good...happy weekend :D sweethoneybums As if I would take pictures like that.. tut tut.. esthers ur so cute...... sweethoneybums I've been looking at the acommodation part of this but I am actually looking for some good links to other web sites so I may find somewhere nice to live.. one bed fully furnished preferably.. Any recommendations? sweethoneybums
Thanks ! :) esthers
thanks god u reply...... GAB You have to be joking-these guys have gone so starry eyed and mushy they have actually forgotten the question. Why, oh why, did the use of myself as my avatar not get the same response?? Look at the Gulf News classifieds on-line as well as Khaleej Times-this will give you a good idea of the market and rentals. Dubizzle () sometimes will have accomodation and in the classifieds of you may find something-being a woman this is a good place to look. Cheers! sweethoneybums Can anyone help re accommodation question please? Thanks! arniegang and the question is ?? sweethoneybums
Thank you very much for your help. Especially the expat woman thing!
:) sweethoneybums Hey.. not had a chance to get on for a while! How is everyone? :) lostguy If you are really going to work for a company in Dubai then dubai media city is on top...i have been working here for last 3 years and didn't c a professional envirnment like this anywhere else...and u will c really great ideas here...;) sniper420
