Finally there

yshimy Hello all, I'm new in dubai (2 weeks) but not new to the forum. Alot of people already helped me with alot of questions and it was really usefull. Currently i'm settling down, found a place to stay, still waiting to move in and furnishing it. Failed my first driving exam :crybaby: but as the place is only 8 min from work, i'll not make this ruin my life. Anyway, now as everything is settling, the next challange is Socializing. wish me luck all. Cheers

Congrats on getting here and welcome to DXB. Try to get your license before the summer an 8 min walk in July is murder. The days i get up early enough i have a 20 min walk to work and it is awesome in the winter but come summer eeeaaashhh. yshimy hehehe, Fayz, Thanks for the note, but ...... my work is 8 min by car, so i'll not go walking, i'll just take a cab or go with a friend. But still, i need to get it fast as waiting for a taxi in the summer is an issue ;) Cheers mate, this license thing is driving me carzy. sniper420

alrite welcome Aboard again haha :D johnf Hi yshimy! Hope you're settling in fine! and good luck with the driving license. Just one question regarding that: I take it you didn't have one before? I can just convert the one I have at some city office, correct? Thanks, John. yshimy easternjewel: we know you are very hospitable lady and make us (newbies) feels good when joining the forum and make it easy for us to integrate espcially with alot of people coming out from Fight Club and they can't forget the intensity inside shouldn't go outside :D Johnf: I got driving license for about 7 years now and been driving everywhere. Yes you can exhcange your license if it is from specific countries. I'm german, but my license is from Egypt, so .... I need to go through the test although my international driving license is valid everywhere in the world, even here in dubai, but once residency is stamped on my passport, it is no good. Regards johnf thanks for your reply, Ishimy. So if I understand correctly, for some countries, the exchange is possible without the test. I've got a Dutch license, anybody know about that? /Johnf Defo Hey everyone! :) Nice to see some have settled in Dubai. I'm arriving on 17 January, but still looking for a place to stay :? Any tips? Please :D Thanks :) yshimy All thanks alot, Yorky, don't worry, i'm the one who will be flashing your ass out and also might be pushing you with my front bumper (once i purchase one, well, the whole car need to be purchased) Defo, Tips... 1) Take your time looking 2) live near your work (10 min max, as in traffic it will be 30) 3) once you find a good deal, jump on it or others will do ( i lost some good ones) PM me and i might be helpful, as i looked everywhere and still got some contact numbers. Cheers all Defo Thanks yshimy :D I've PMed you  AhmedBinAbdullah Welcome .. Defo
Thanks 8)
yshimy Just an update. I PASSED MY DRIVING TEST from the 2nd attempt. CHEEEEEERRRRSSSS :bigsmurf: :bounce:  :bom: :geek: :joker: :king: :reindeer: :rr: :salute: :thumbright: :thumbleft: AhmedBinAbdullah Congratulations ! Happy for you. Where will be the party in? kidding  Now you need to relax and then you need to pass cars showrooms. Congratulations Again :) Ahmed Defo
Yo!
Many congrats dude! 8)
Btw, I have 6 interviews next month 8) And found a place in Jebel Ali Gardens :) fayz
Mabrook, now comes the big decisions what car(s) you gonna get? yshimy Ahmed, Thanx, but no party, just few wheel spins and dounts to burn few rubber when i get my car. well.... Still didn't decide, it is very hard to choose a car. Defo, Congrat's i think you welcome to the neighborhood, i'm in the Greens. Fayz, Well man, i will not buy a car now, i'm going home for 2 weeks after 4 days, so i'll take my time, but in these 4 days i'm checking everything, and i mean EVERYTHING all the cars you imagine up to 170 K Dhms Lead options so far 4x4 > Nissan Murano (05) Sedan > Accord (05) (06) (the safe sane option) Coupe > Beemer 330ci 328 etc (02+) Yuppie car > Porsche boxster S (99+) Oldies > Merc. SL500 (95+) Problems: Old cars get financed up to 8 years from its model, so if i bought a 2000 car model, the bank finance for only 2 years as 06 models are out. so i have to pay a huge downpayment. Coupe, Yuppie cars > extremely high insurance as i'm 25- and license less than 1 year (UAE one) + it is a coupe + big engine New ones > Quick Depressiation (whatever it is spelled) Sedan > come on, with all this variaty, why the helll should i drive a resonable car. Big problem, when pay in installments, the diff between a model and other is very 100s and then you end up paying 2800 for a car while you wished to pay 1300 but you keep upgrade the model to a better one or other sports car as you think "what the hell, it is only few bucks difference" Oh, i keep mumbeling now... Take care all easternjewel 1st of all, congrats on passing your test! sure feels like top of the world huh??! :D OMG, you and I are in the same boat! I too have to buy a car and i m going bonkers! well said, you feel 'oh well its not much of difference and end up buying what you didnt really budget for' My dad gave me a 90 k budget and told me "go sweety, buy a convertiable" ... & I was like HELLO?? so now he has moved a lil to 130k I see that your doing some research... Lol .. Do pass me info on which Convertible fits in my budget.. Ive got BM z4 as one of the options.. But honestly tellin u... I dun like its shape.. plus its only 2 seater & plus its a soft top.. So nother is this peugeot 307.. I like its shape... its hard top..but the engine is small...!! So i was thinking why not buy a heavy engine, my desirable car but second hand.. but then again... there are issues! and its difficult to find good ones! yshimy HEHEHHEHEHEHEHE Lucky you, When i got the license, my dad have me a good hand shake and gave me the card of his contact in the bank, i called the guy thinking my father gave him my limit, but....... He was the Car loan responsible and i have to finance it myself :D    Any way, we are on the same limits, then i'll PM you with what is in my mind so not to bore everybody here with my intolerable hesitation and multiple mind sets in one. cheers fayz
As someone who dives a softtop convertible i wouldn't recommend it, get a hardtop or targa, If you decide to go with something like a Z4 or S2000 get the optional hardtop, worth the money. yshimy Thanx for the tip, what's your ride? fayz 325 Convertible, well was my ride. I'm like the 2 of you in the process of buying. I'm just waiting back on a quote for an RX8, this is my new front runner. My problem is I refuse to drive automatic and this is making things difficult for me. Defo I think I'm gonna use the taxi the first months in Dubai  milo99 Yeah, I think that's a good idea Defo. And besides, you get to learn about your surroundings without getting lost! :) Laterz Defo
Exactly  Its maybe a bit more expensive, but atleast I can explore the city without getting frustrated or lost :P milo99 If all goes well, I'm planning on moving out to Dubai in late Aug or Sept and from the feedback I'm receiving from friends and family it looks like I have their full support. A new adventure awaits me...I'm really excited! Must continue to research and learn more about the UAE. Never hurts to be educated... laterz Defo
Great decision! 8) My adventure starts today, plane leaving at 17:55 GMT. Will be in Dubai tuesday :D
Anyways, see you in August :P milo99 Hey Defo, Congrates! Hope you enjoy your stay! I am still working on going over there. Take care, milo99 milo99 GO LEAFS GO!!!!! Hopefully, you can watch the Leaf games over there in Dubai Defo! Laterz :D Defo
