yshimy Hello all, I'm new in dubai (2 weeks) but not new to the forum. Alot of people already helped me with alot of questions and it was really usefull. Currently i'm settling down, found a place to stay, still waiting to move in and furnishing it. Failed my first driving exam :crybaby: but as the place is only 8 min from work, i'll not make this ruin my life. Anyway, now as everything is settling, the next challange is Socializing. wish me luck all. Cheers

Congrats on getting here and welcome to DXB. Try to get your license before the summer an 8 min walk in July is murder. The days i get up early enough i have a 20 min walk to work and it is awesome in the winter but come summer eeeaaashhh. yshimy hehehe, Fayz, Thanks for the note, but ...... my work is 8 min by car, so i'll not go walking, i'll just take a cab or go with a friend. But still, i need to get it fast as waiting for a taxi in the summer is an issue ;) Cheers mate, this license thing is driving me carzy. sniper420

Yes you can exhcange your license if it is from specific countries. I'm german, but my license is from Egypt, so .... I need to go through the test although my international driving license is valid everywhere in the world, even here in dubai, but once residency is stamped on my passport, it is no good. Still didn't decide, it is very hard to choose a car. Defo, Congrat's i think you welcome to the neighborhood, i'm in the Greens. Fayz, Well man, i will not buy a car now, i'm going home for 2 weeks after 4 days, so i'll take my time, but in these 4 days i'm checking everything, and i mean EVERYTHING all the cars you imagine up to 170 K Dhms Lead options so far 4x4 > Nissan Murano (05) Sedan > Accord (05) (06) (the safe sane option) Coupe > Beemer 330ci 328 etc (02+) Yuppie car > Porsche boxster S (99+) Oldies > Merc. SL500 (95+) Problems: Old cars get financed up to 8 years from its model, so if i bought a 2000 car model, the bank finance for only 2 years as 06 models are out. so i have to pay a huge downpayment. Coupe, Yuppie cars > extremely high insurance as i'm 25- and license less than 1 year (UAE one) + it is a coupe + big engine New ones > Quick Depressiation (whatever it is spelled) Sedan > come on, with all this variaty, why the helll should i drive a resonable car. Big problem, when pay in installments, the diff between a model and other is very 100s and then you end up paying 2800 for a car while you wished to pay 1300 but you keep upgrade the model to a better one or other sports car as you think "what the hell, it is only few bucks difference" Oh, i keep mumbeling now... As someone who dives a softtop convertible i wouldn't recommend it, get a hardtop or targa, If you decide to go with something like a Z4 or S2000 get the optional hardtop, worth the money. yshimy Thanx for the tip, what's your ride? fayz 325 Convertible, well was my ride. I'm like the 2 of you in the process of buying. I'm just waiting back on a quote for an RX8, this is my new front runner. My problem is I refuse to drive automatic and this is making things difficult for me. Exactly :wink: Its maybe a bit more expensive, but atleast I can explore the city without getting frustrated or lost :P milo99 If all goes well, I'm planning on moving out to Dubai in late Aug or Sept and from the feedback I'm receiving from friends and family it looks like I have their full support.
