Isn't that a kind of discrimination, like an african man can't marry a white woman even if they love each other?

no its not discrimination... its a religion and thats how it works....

And if he loves her, it shouldn't be a problem for him to convert

you love someone for the person, doesn't matter what colour or religion. You love someone because you love the way she/he is, why do you want to change him/her? if she/he changed then is not the someone you love anymore.

I disagree here, you love them and all but what about the future?? The kids? Which religion are you going to teach them?? It is nice and rosy saying if you love someone it does not matter. Colour or race, nationality etc does not matter in my opinion but religion does matter big time. All your life you believed something and you want to teach your child what you believe but if the dad does not believe the same, the children will be in a mess.

"Also, because the children are more likely to follow the religion of the father rather than the mother."

So is Islam a better religion than the others?

I don't believe that to be the case. Children will follow the religion of their mother just as much as their father. Indeed, children do have a choice of their own. Despite the indoctrination by my parents I was able to steer clear of their chri$tianity.

i agree with val, only on his last point,
my father has no religion, my mother is catholic,
i was baptised as a catholic and followed my mothers religion.

i still dont see why non-muslum men cannot marry muslim women,
if a man is a strong follower of christianity, then his basic beleifs are the same as a muslum women.. correct?

it is then the parents choice what religion the children will be as we children are born they cannot make that sort of decision.. correct?

so if a non-muslum man married a muslum woman, and agreed to bring the child up as Islam, then wouldnt it be alright?

are you an atheist? if so,

i hope that when you die (and you will die), and when you come back as a tree on this earth, and mid breeze, some fat hairy lumberjack comes and chops you down, ties you up, drags you through the mud, throws you into his truck, shoves you through the wood chipper, pounds you into paper, and prints the quran, bible, torah...whatever religious book there is ....on your pages...... (taken from Dane Cook...oh how i wish i could take credit for that one, but alas, i cannot)

that is of course if you are an atheist.

also, why should I? so you can argue somemore on how im wrong and you 'just dont see it'?

if you cant respect others, dont expect to be respected. respect is something earned, something, which for me, you havent.

I haven't disrespected you or your religion, you *have* shown a preference for Islam over other religions.

"also, why should I?"

You made the accusation

"if you cant respect others"

I didn't disrespect you, you came on to this conversation frothing at the mouth.

i agree with Bushra.

both Islam AND Christianity encourage the women to marry men from the same faith. Men are able to marry women of the other.
Far as i understand, it is due to the passing down of religion to the children from the father.

In Judaism, the religion is passed down via the mother, not father. So if the father is Jewish and mother not, Child will not be Jewish by birth.

aslo as i understand a Jewish woman would still have to convert to Islam or Christianity to be sure the Child was a Muslim or Christian respectively should they marry. Same applies to the non monotheistic religions.

Of course, if you dont care, you will marry regardless.
If you are an atheist you may find it difficult to understand, also for many Europeans/USA/Canadians religion is more of a choice than a way of life so typically they find it bizarre.

I just feel it is wrong to quizz the Muslims alone regarding this sensitive topic.
