BTW isnt Dubai trying to establish itself as a tourist destination?

It's just one idiot, not 'everyone'.

Personally, I've met a lot of US military since I've been in Dubai and they're good lads.

Don't listen to the knob-jobbing wankers on the forum.

I bump into them a lot at Kuwait airport - at first I gave a wide birth but got talking to one guy from new jersey.

He enlisted when he was 17 (before the war) as there was no other work around and quite a bad drug problem in his town. His family had a long military background as well.

He could not stand being out in Iraq and did not agree being there and most of his buddies felt the same - but he had to complete his time or do time for deserting and wait even longer to get back with his family.

As above, there is a US base here so no surprise, that and it's a very Westernised and safe place to get some down time in this part of the region.

American military are always easy to spot, groups of burly men with cropped haircuts, you'd think they'd maybe get some training how to blend in a bit.

But mabybe they have been trained really well and are truly blending. I often see burly men with crapped haircuts wearing dish dash

And I also thought dish disha and trainers or "sneakers" might give a hint

Also most of the soldiers in Iraq travel to and from the Middle East via Dubai on Emirates airlines. I know this because once in the matter of days like 20 flights got fully booked from DXB to New York and when i asked why this happened in a non-peak season i was told its army personnel traveling back home.

Anyway the UAE has very few US marines compared to Bahrain or Qatar.
