erhm..erhm...i have to disagree with all u guys ..i think hiya has thrown some useful issues up for discussion, especially female circumsision (more rightfully known as Female Genital Mutilation) it's a sensitive but important issue and one that is a particular problem that affects women from the africa and the middle east... just recently went on a study day regarding this issue...it's alarming ...the technician at the venue fainted

Wannabe I think one of the most annoying things about Hiya is that even if there is a good topic for discussion she doesnt stick around to discuss it ..... she hasnt posted a single remark since her initial post .....

Actually I'm quite shocked and appalled that you guys, whatever you think of the poster, have degenerated and belittled a serious issue. Female circumcision is a terrible thing that still happens in many countries around the world. It is in no certain terms mutilation of the female genetalia, carried out without anaesthetic, which can cause horrific infections, infertility and even death!

In many cases the female sex organs are cut off using dirty razor blades!

It's a ing and disgraceful act, and all t you guys who made fun of it, should go away and bow your heads in shame!

chocs ...u know the worst thing about FGM (female genital mutilation) is that it is mainly instigated by women....and inncorrectly associated with Islam. In the united kingdom it is an illegal and (although disputable) it is also now an offence for certain ethnic groups to take their female children to their country of origin in case they are subjected to this barbaric act.

Agree, fgm causes +++ problems for women.....in addition to the trauma caused during the procedure (and in no way can it be compared to male circumcision) it can cause big problems during childbirth depending on the classification of the procedure. many women now have a reversal (for a better word as it's not actually a reversal because what has been removed is not replaced) during pregnancy or delivery.

Wannabe, Yes I know this. There was a big article on it recently. Many tribes still practice it also, but it's nothing short of barbaric and and you say cannot be compared to the male version.

by the way...just to clarify....although fgm is mainly associated with certain countries and ethnic groups.... does not mean that these people are barbaric... they have grown up through generations with the belief that fgm makes a women more chaste and protects her purity until she marries....in the minds of these societies (albeit misguided) they are doing good for their female offspring..... they also percieve the sugicaly altered genetalia as more beautiful......in fact....fgm is also practiced in the west to an extent......i.e peircings and other forms of plastic surgery...however these are carried out with full informed consent of the individual concerned.

I would hardly compare however piercing genetalia in the same category as this is usually done to enhance s.e.x.ual pleasure not stunt it. Plus you're not cutting any of the flesh off either.

With your other topic I'm assuming you're talking about born again virgins, who literally have their hymens stitched up so that they bleed on their wedding night, proving that they are a virgin.

The most ridiculous thing about this is that very few women will actually bleed after s.e.x for the first time. They hymen can be broken by the use of tampons, or even sporting activities such as horwse riding. Again people who have these false beliefs need to be educated in such matters.

sorry didn't understand the above bit of your post...people should be educated in that this behaviour (fgm) as children is NOT acceptable and there is no acceptable reason for it!... cosmetic or otherwise!...

Many in the west do this, because in that culture having excessivly protuding outer vaginal lips is considered either unhygenic or simply "ugly".

Sorry I managed to cunfuse myself as well. I meant people need to be educated that there is nothing wrong with being au naturel.

The designer thing? Oh I know it's rife in the p<3n industry of course, where they do it to make themselves more attractive.
