UAE residents can now invest in Apple, LG, Samsung and Lenov Mar 10, 2014
A UAE bank has announced the launch of a new investment scheme that offers UAE residents the facility to invest in global smartphones giants including Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), Samsung (NASDAQ:SSNLF), Lenovo (NASDAQ:LNGVY) and LG Electronics (OTN:LGEAF).

In a media statement today, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (Adib) said it is offering the opportunity to make a low-risk investment in one of the fastest growing industries in the world – smartphone manufacturing.

The capital-protected note matures in 18 months, and offers the opportunity to profit from the expected growth of the leading smartphone manufacturers in the world including Apple Inc., Lenovo Group, LG Electronics and Samsung Electronics, the statement noted.

The rapid increase in demand for wireless data is driving demand for smartphones and tablets. Global smartphone sales surpassed 1 billion units for the first time in 2013, and are forecasted to rise around 20 per cent this year, according to consultants International Data Corporation.

Adib’s structured notes have been well received by investors, according to the bank. A capital-protected gold note that matured last year produced a total return of 15 per cent, it noted, while the structured note that invested in oil produced a total return of 18 per cent last year, the statement highlighted. Adib also recently launched a capital-protected note that allows customers to invest in the world’s biggest car manufacturers.
