I would like to keep a couple of Crayfish and I have a couple of questions.
Firstly, can I get my Cray's from Carrefour or Geant? I know they look a little spazzed but I have read they are hardy and will recover usually.
Secondly, what's the best size and way to setup a tank for a couple of Crays?
Any help would be appreciated.

You will have to establish if the Cray's from wherever are "freshwater Crays". If they are seawater Crays then they will not be able to be kept in a tank.

OK. I think the ones there are seawaters.
Know any sources of Freshies in Dubai?

According to Wikipedia Crayfish are freshwater only.
I am confused now.

Crayfish as pet sounds unique if not weird. Unless you're planning to open a fine dining restaurant. 1.5 meter x 1 meter size of tank for a couple of small crayfish is fine, but i am not sure if they can survive using tap water full of chlorine.

I was thinking of a bit smaller tank than 1.5 x 1... maybe like... 25 cm?

Needs to be a BIT bigger than 25cm think Sunset blvd pond also the crays crawl out so they need high walls to stop them and a rock to climb onto to get out of the water occasionally
very interesting pets

We only have freshwater crays in the UK and my assumption was that those from dubai cannot be fresh water because there aint any freshwater

Probably best to just have a pet rock!

Well... have seen some internet sites saying a 40 cm tank should do it. So wil get that... and then I will have a competition on the forum to name the crays.

I always called them Lobbies.
They don't taste that good compared to the salt water variety but make good pets.
They are pretty hardy. A 25cm tank will do but you can go bigger if you like.
Are you talking about the ones for sale in the seafood dept?
I didn't know that they were live.

Yeah I first got interested when I noticed they were alive. I kind of felt sorry for them as they were obviously chilled to slow them down but still very much fiesty. And they looked kind of cute.
With some more research, this weekend I am gonna Cray up, and then post photos for a naming competition.

You got me wrong.. my question wasnt meant to incite that sort of a reaction but to know the fact.
Found out from wiki that 'Crayfish are eaten in Europe, China, Africa, Australia and the United States'. They look like lobsters.. i've not tried eating both the species.. so dint know.

I would suggest keeping your Krays in separate cells and ensuring that they are not fed cake as this can sometimes include files or lockpicks allowing them to cut their way through the bars. Nickel cadmium coated tungsten steel is often the hardest material I find.
Anyway, I though one of them was dead?

Crayfish tastes like a cross between huge prawns and lobster. Lovely done on the BBQ.

I have no intention of eating my pets.
Anyway, Operation Cray should take place this weekend. Will let you know how I go.
